Description

Team AweSeven is creating engaging educational games in the SMALLab (Situated Multimedia Arts Learning Lab) environment for the Elizabeth Forward School District. We are aiming for games that will leave students in “Awe” of the SMALLab. Our focus is on Math and English Language Arts games for 6th to 8th grade students. We also create easy-to-use customization tools so teachers can customize the game content for different knowledge levels of students.

The SMALLab strives to create advancing embodied learning experience for schools. By integrating video projectors and motion tracking technologies, it allows multiple players to simultaneously interact with each other and projected game worlds in a real-time shared physical space. It makes learning fun and highly interactive to the students.

Personal Contribution

  • Under the constraints of Educational Standards for 6th to 8th grade students, led the brainstorming session in the early development stage. Deconstructed and remixed 30+ brainstorming ideas and ended up with 5 concept ideas for both Math and English Language Arts games.
  • Presented the 5 concept ideas to our client. Based on their feedback, picked 3 ideas out of the 5 concept ideas to move on. Fleshed out those 3 game ideas and accomplished the detailed initial rulesets for them.
  • Organized the developing plan for the whole semester. Scheduled the checkpoints and playtests for the 3 games.
  • Established the playtest plans (example) and led each playtest. According to the feedback from the playtest, adjust or redesign the game and led the team to the next iteration.
  • Composed the Instruction Manuals of the 3 games for the teachers.
  • We are on SMALLab Learning's official webpage! Visit our project website for more insights of our development.
